In his homeland, Bo Saris wouldn’t be able to go out without being swamped by fans. In London – for now – he’s just another handsome young man with a talent and a dream. Not that he’s complaining.
Saris’ dedication is impressive. He’s already locked into a hectic five-day-a-week nine-to-five songwriting schedule with talent including Johnny Rockstar (Robbie Williams), Liam Howe (Ellie Goulding), Eric Appapoulay (Plan B) and Paul Herman (Dido).
Influenced by Bill Withers, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Amy Winehouse and Jamie Liddell, Saris possesses a voice with the soul of a Motown favourite, but with the emotional grit of Free and Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers and the contemporary appeal of Robin Thicke. Although much of his past work favours jazzy, soulful grooves, his recent songwriting has focused on the cornerstones of hit records – strong vocals, enticing melodies and memorable hooks.
It seems to be only a matter of time before Saris repeats his past success in the UK. As the album sales accumulate and he once more can’t go out without being deluged by fans and well-wishers, he’ll be keeping his feet on the ground and everything in perspective.
